Kittens!
Nothing like spending the last few minutes of a Friday indulging in the kitten meme of the day:

I rarely get tagged in those facebook memes due to one (or more) of the following: (1) I rarely reply (2) I mock those requesting my participation if I do reply and (3) people generally despise me. Anyhoo, I cheerfully played along with one called “15 albums” because I would much rather talk about my music interests than my personal interests. And I’m all jacked up on cold meds.
Here’s the instructions:
Think of 15 albums, CDs, LPs that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life. Dug into your soul. Music that brought you to life when you heard it. Royally affected you, kicked you in the wazoo, literally socked you in the gut, is what I mean. Then when you finish, tag 15 others, including me. Make sure you copy and paste this part so they know the drill. Get the idea now? Good. Tag, you’re it!
My list:
1. OK Computer – Radiohead
2. Crooked Rain Crooked Rain – Pavement
3. Clarity – Jimmy Eat World
4. Homogenic – Bjork
5. Adore – Smashing Pumpkins
6. Bona Drag – Morrissey
7. Bread – Best of Bread
8. Blue – Joni Mitchell
9. Boy’s Don’t Cry – The Cure
10. First Band on the Moon – The Cardigans
11. Bread – Best of Bread
12. Hopes and Fears – Keane
13. Surfer Rosa – The Pixies (this should be on everyone’s list eh mike?)
14. No Need To Argue – Cranberries
15. Joshua Tree – U2
Now that I think of it, this might just be the high school me coming out to play today. Huh!
Social Media Club of Salt Lake City is a recently established local chapter of Social Media Club. I am excited to get involved in this group and other creative goings-ons of the community, such as Ignite Salt Lake. I missed the events I used to partake of in Phoenix, such as Creative Connect and Refresh Phoenix, so I am super pumped that similar groups are starting to spring up in Salt Lake City like gangbusters.
And, get this, I am not just showing up to these things for the free food, I am actually getting involved. I know! For example, Buckingham was asked to work on a logo for SMCSLC and I thought I would throw a few in:

(Yes, yes sexy enough, but what can we do with it?)

(BAM! I think I just got a little Emeril on it.)
I wanted to keep the original shape of the logo for familiarity, the rounded corners and such, but I wanted to integrate more “socialness” to it, thus the evolution into the voice bubble. I will agree, the voice bubble idea itself is a bit “icon de jur,” but I like it and I think it works. I traded the block text and color for a lowercase, gradient, san-serif version. I think it works great on a white, solid green, or back and white application (see top two logos nd bottom left). Additionally usage could be Social Media Club wide; replace ’salt lake city’ with any city and it’s done.
Alas, SMCSLC wanted something closer to the original logo (see bottom right logo), so it was morphed into the voice bubble with the city tagline. Not as modern as the previous comps but it looks nice and gets the job done.
If you want to vote between me and Buckingham on the SMCSLC logos, hit the blog now to add your two-cents.
A follow up to the ‘David after Dentist’ video in my last post, Gator High, ‘Chad after Dentist.’ I love you sooo much internet!
Due to the fact that I am completely neurotic, I worry about this very situation; being put under by the dentist for surgery and then I do unsavory things while not in control of my body. You know, sort of like when I went to NAU for a while. And that’s exactly what I want to say to young David in 2020, “Remember that video from 2009? Welcome to The University of Florida. You already know the ropes.”

This video contains a few of my most favorite things:
1. Steve Martin (related: I am reading Born Standing Up: A Comic’s Life – great book)
3. A bit of cursing (related: the television)
4. Jokes about Bruce Springsteen’s Super Bowl super crotch (related: bosscocked.com, thx sunny!)
5. Insane amounts of cursing (related: my mum, christian bale remix NSFW)
It’s the simple things that make life worth living.

To commemorate my new found blogness, I have decided to jump on the custom masthead bandwagon. Thus I present to you the following: “February 2009 is Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass Appreciation Month.”

(True to life – I only have four digits on my left hand. And jaundice.)
Wait, what you say? Oh yes, my silly little internet friend, it’s holiday. Since when you ask? Oh, you know, since I decided it was. Each month is going to be labeled an obscure, self-established holiday. Hold on to your sombreros kids, it’s going to be fan-nacho-tastic.
Most importantly, oh man, I love myself the Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass. Always have, always will. If you know anything about the 60s or, well anything, then you will recognize the masthead as a play on the TJB album, Whipped Cream & Other Delights. It’s one of the most easily recognizable and iconic album covers of all-time. Don’t ask me how but I have personally amassed three copies of this album, yes THREE. No record collection is complete without it. Or multiple copies apparently.

(Did you know you are ogling a pregnant lady – Dolores Erickson? Ewww!)
Through the magic of google, and to my own personal delight, I have collected a few versions of plays on the Whipped Cream album cover. I also dug up some articles regarding it’s history and a few other doodads of general TJB interest. Enjoy.

(Soul Asylum’s Clam Dip & Other Delights)

(Cherry Capri’s Creamy Cocktail & Other Delights)

(Frivolous Five’s Sour Cream & Other Delights)

(Cornelious Danger’s Let’s Make Out and Go-Go-Go Bananas)

(Pat Cooper’s Spaghetti Sauce & Other Delights)

(Sweet Cream’s I Don’t Know What I’d Do)

(Whipped Cream & Other Delights Rewhipped) If you love TJB, get this.

(Facinating article in Esquire Magazine found on Tralfaz Archive, a great site)
See you later, alligator.
